Drink with an infidel
Why infidel? well this a friend that is returning from Saudi Arabia, and where should meet to talk about the last year of internet silence... but the local pub in Valbonne!
An old stomping ground of many an alcoholic nite, but these days the whole atmosphere is more subdued and well downright dead. We enter and are immediately looked upon to what we are going to order; I go to the safe route a "Lager" as many a bad stomach can be remembered from this watering hole.
The exchange of conversation is more oriented toward the exploits of the infidel, as living in Saudi Arabia during the last years of turmoil has more fertile areas of : murder, kidnapping, police checks, corruption, bombs and prison tales than a year passed as a Computer Specialist in Sophia Antipolis.
As usual if you lived in it then it is not the same as if you read it on a web page and or seen it on the news, he tells it all with a smile and even has the intention of going back...
At the nites end and I'm left with not want anymore and the infidel having not drunk for 7 months wanting more but restraining not to drink too much. After parting it becomes quite clear that the two of us are still looking for the oasis but both believe it to be a mirage....
